It is still releasing substantial moisture from the original mix water, and the surface has not developed full strength. Coating inside that window produces adhesion failure that typically shows up six to eighteen months later — long after anyone connects it to the timing.

The upside of a new slab
Once it is genuinely ready, a new slab is the best substrate we work with. No previous coating to remove, no decades of oil contamination, minimal repair, and usually a flat, well-finished pour. Preparation is straightforward, which means more of your budget goes into the coating system rather than into getting the floor ready for it.
If you have just moved in, the practical advice is simple: find out when the garage was poured, and if it has been under 28 days, wait. It is the cheapest thing you will ever do for the longevity of that floor.

Coordinating with your builder
If your home is still in construction or recently completed, a few things are worth raising with the builder. Ask for the garage slab pour date in writing — it determines when we can start. Ask whether a vapour retarder was installed beneath the slab, because that affects moisture testing. And if a coating was included in your build package, find out what system it actually is before accepting it; builder-grade garage coatings are frequently thin partial-broadcast systems with an epoxy topcoat.
